TEETH WHITENING

Over time— and thanks in large part to our favorite pick-me-ups, like coffee, tea, and soda—teeth tend to become discolored or stained. Whatever the cause, if you’re troubled by stained or yellow teeth, a beautiful smile could be closer than you think. At Uptown Park Dental, we offer safe, effective solutions for whitening, and we have alternatives that can fit any budget. Whitening is simple, fast, and produces major results.

Take-Home Trays

We offer take-home trays, both customized and not customized, to be used in conjunction with a bleaching solution over a period of days to produce a whiter, brighter smile. If possible, customized trays are preferable; they’re more comfortable since they’re crafted to fit your teeth exactly, and they can also reduce any discomfort to your gums from the bleaching solution.

Bleaching only works on natural teeth and may not be effective in all cases. We’ll be happy to discuss your whitening options and help you understand the potential whitening can have in your case.

In-Office Whitening

We also offer Zoom whitening, which is a fast, effective, in-office treatment for maximum whitening results.

First, we apply a protective coating to your gums, to protect your delicate tissues from contact with the bleaching solution. Next, we apply the solution to your teeth in three separate stages, each of which takes 15 to 20 minutes; results are typically noticeable after the first application. After all three applications, you’re done. Your teeth are shades whiter, and your smile is magnitudes brighter.

Frequently Asked Questions about Tooth Whitening

How does bleaching work?

The whitening process is possible due to the ability of the active ingredients, carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide, to pass freely through the enamel and dentin and to permeate all parts of the tooth. These peroxides breakdown into oxygen radicals, which migrate between the enamel prisms, breaking down any molecules that result in tooth discoloration. The structure of the tooth is not altered; the internal tooth color is simply made lighter.

How long does bleaching last?

Bleaching results are very stable, but depending on the patient's nutrition and lifestyle habits, the procedure may need to be redone periodically.

Will bleaching cause sensitivity?

Tooth sensitivity is a reasonably common side effect of bleaching. If sensitivity occurs, it is transient and disappears after treatment is finished. We offer a pre and post -whitening protocol that helps to decrease the occurrence of sensitivity.

Will bleaching weaken the enamel?

No. The active agents simply break the bonds that create color in the teeth. The enamel maintains its proper structure and function.

Is bleaching safe?

Bleaching procedures are safe and approved by the American Dental Association. Bleaching does not wear away any tooth structure or make a tooth more susceptible to staining.
